Reportedly, Apple Inc.’s much-anticipated electric car project, known as ‘Project Titan,’ is reportedly delayed, with the new release target set for 2028, according to insights from prominent Apple analyst Mark Gruman.

Originally slated for a 2025 release, ‘Project Titan‘ commenced in 2015 and has encountered multiple setbacks and leadership changes. A recent Bloomberg report by Gruman reveals a significant shift in the project’s direction, moving from the initial vision of a ‘fully autonomous vehicle’ to a ‘more practical electric car design.’

Gruman’s report suggests that the forthcoming Apple car, now expected in 2028, will feature limited autonomous capabilities, akin to existing electric vehicles like those produced by Tesla. Reportedly, the initial ambition for a Level 4 autonomous system—complete autonomy without a steering wheel—has been redefined to align with a Level 2+ system. This adaptation requires drivers to remain attentive and ready to assume control when necessary.

Notably, Kevin Lynch, Apple Vice President, has been leading ‘Project Titan’ since 2021, as disclosed in the Bloomberg report. Despite the altered trajectory towards a more conventional electric car, concerns linger among insiders regarding the anticipated level of innovation, particularly in light of the revised autonomy specifications, Gruman notes.

Apple has not officially released any public statements or details about ‘Project Titan’ or its plans for venturing into the electric vehicle market. The shift in the release timeline and project scope underscores the complexities and challenges inherent in developing cutting-edge automotive technologies.
