Grameenphone Contributes Tk 24.44 Crore to Bangladesh Labour Welfare Fund

Grameenphone, the leading telecom operator in Bangladesh, has reaffirmed its commitment to worker welfare and responsible corporate practices by contributing Tk 24.44 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Fund. This contribution represents 10% of the company’s Workers Profit Participation Fund (WPPF) for 2023.

A delegation, led by Sayeda Tahya Hossain, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Grameenphone, handed over the cheque to the Honorable Adviser for the Ministry of Labour and Employment Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan during a ceremony at the ministry’s conference room in Dhaka today (29 Sep).

A.H.M. Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, along with key representatives from Grameenphone, including, Mohammad Aulad Hossain, Head of Industrial Relations and Culture; Mohammad Khaled Mridha, Head of Compensations Benefits and Analytics; Muhammad Tawhidul Islam, Senior Industrial Relations Expert and Md. Harun Ur Rashid, Industrial Relations Expert was present during the event.

Sayeda Tahya Hossain, Chief Human Resources Officer of Grameenphone, said, “In Grameenphone, we emphasize on our role as a responsible corporate citizen. Our commitment extends beyond connectivity; we are equally dedicated to nurturing and empowering a diverse and digitally skilled future-ready workforce. This contribution reflects the company’s dedication in fostering a work environment that prioritizes safety and inclusivity for all employees. In partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, we continue to ensure that employees thrive in an ever-evolving digital landscape and support our workforce to build a prosperous economy and a better future for all.”

Under the Bangladesh Labour Act, domestic and foreign companies contribute one-tenth of 5% of their profits to the Labour Welfare Fund. Since its inception, Grameenphone, as a responsible corporate company, and one of the highest contributors to the Labour Welfare Foundation Fund, has so far deposited a total of Tk 2,393,170,603 (Two hundred thirty-nine crore thirty-one lacs seventy thousand six hundred and three).
