Corporate Curveball: BRAC University Business and Economics Forum Hosts Career2 min read
On December 17, 2024, the BRAC University Business and Economics Forum hosted Corporate Curveball, a career development event aimed at preparing students for the transition from campus life to the corporate world. Held at BRAC University, the event featured two distinguished BRACU alumni: Shihab Noor Alam, Senior Officer of Trade Marketing at bKash Limited, and Saika Binte Islam, Officer of Portfolio and Communications at Swisscontact.
Session Highlights
The first session, led by Shihab Noor Alam, focused on debunking corporate myths and promoting personal development. Shihab emphasized the importance of conducting a personal SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. He addressed misconceptions about CGPA, clarifying that while a strong CGPA is helpful during initial screening, it is not the sole determinant of career success. Instead, he encouraged students to focus on becoming well-rounded individuals by participating in extracurricular activities and developing practical skills.
Shihab also highlighted the value of starting from the ground up in any profession and embracing uncertainty as a learning opportunity. His key takeaway for students was to “TRY”—to take action, explore new opportunities, and step outside their comfort zones.
The second session, led by Saika Binte Islam, focused on career planning and strategic decision-making. She highlighted the importance of joining university clubs to develop leadership, communication, and management skills. Saika encouraged students to engage in meaningful competitions, step outside their comfort zones, and align their efforts with long-term career aspirations.
