Grameenphone’s Revenue Grew Driven By Bundle Package & Data In Q2’222 min read
Grameenphone the leading telecom company in Bangladesh has posted its financial statement for Q2’2022 (Apr-Jun). Total revenue of the company increased by 5.9% YoY from Tk 35,762.7 Mn in Q2’21 to Tk 37,882.9 Mn in Q2’22. Profit grew by 8.2% YoY from Tk 8,505.2 Mn in Q2’21 to Tk 9,206.4 Mn in Q2’22.

Topline growth is driven by Subscription and Traffic growth: Revenue grew by 5.9% YoY mainly driven by 6.5% YoY growth in Subscription and traffic. Subscription and traffic revenue increased from Tk 33,782 Mn in Q2’21 to Tk 35,967 Mn in Q2’22. The growth in subscription and traffic revenue is mainly driven by bundle & Data revenue.
Bundle Revenue increased by 100.0% from Tk 2,600.0 Mn in Q2’21 to Tk 5,200.0 in Q2’22. Data revenue increased by 9.2% YoY from Tk 8,700.0 Mn in Q2’21 to Tk 9,500.0 Mn in Q2’22. ARPU (Average Revenue per User) grew by 2.0% YoY mainly driven by higher bundle and data consumption.
However, AMPU (Average minute per user) continued its declining trend to 198 minutes in Q2’22 which was 205 minutes in Q2’21. The continued rise of OTT services usage like WhatsApp, IMO, messenger, etc is driving the declining trend of AMPU.
Data revenue growth backed by strong consumer usage: The growth in data revenue is backed in by 52.9% YoY growth in MB per subscriber usage. MB per subscriber usage is 5,520 MB in Q2’22 which was 3,609 in Q2’21.
Moreover, the number of internet subscribers increased to 46.2 Mn (5.7% YoY growth) in Q2’22 which was 43.7 Mn in the same period last year. Grameenphone continued its value propositions through attractive market offers supported by the continuous deployment of the spectrum and 4G network expansion. 4G network now covers about 97.1% of the population of the country and about 31.5 Mn people are now empowered with the network.
Expanding 4G network for growth: Grameenphone is investing heavily in establishing a 4G network to push further revenue growth in the coming quarters. The company invested about Tk 5,600.0 Mn (excluding license, lease & ARO) during Q2’22 focusing mainly on 4G network expansion, coverage expansion & spectrum deployment. The company rolled out 2,200+ new 4G sites & 2,200+ new coverage sites in the last twelve months and deployed a 10.4 MHz spectrum in 11,500+ sites during the same period. Now the number of 4G sites is 18,387.
According to a press release in Dhaka Tribune, Grameenphone had a trial run of a 5G network in Dhaka and Chattogram. The company is focusing on better customer service to increase revenue.
