WhatsApp To Introduce Limits On Broadcast Messages For Users And Businesses2 min read
WhatsApp is making a big change to how users and businesses send broadcast messages to reduce spam and improve the messaging experience. The company announced that it will soon set a limit on the number of broadcast messages that both individual users and business accounts can send, reportedly.
In the coming weeks, WhatsApp will start testing limits on how many broadcast messages users can send each month. While the exact limits may vary during testing, one example from Meta suggests a cap of 30 messages per month.
If users want to reach a large number of people beyond this limit, WhatsApp suggests using Status updates or Channels instead.
WhatsApp is also planning to introduce limits for business accounts that send broadcast messages. Until now, businesses using WhatsApp Business could send unlimited broadcasts for free, but this is about to change.
- A Paid Version is Coming: WhatsApp Business will soon offer a paid broadcast messaging feature with extra tools.
- Customized Messages: Businesses will be able to send tailored product updates or special holiday sale messages.
- Limited Free Messages: During the trial phase, merchants will get 250 customized messages for free, but after that, they’ll have to pay for additional messages.
- Message Scheduling: Businesses will also be able to schedule messages, making it easier to plan promotions in advance.

WhatsApp wants to cut down on spam while still allowing occasional promotional messages. Over the past year, the company has already taken steps to limit marketing messages and even introduced an “unsubscribe” option, so users can opt out of unwanted messages without blocking a business.
WhatsApp Business has become a major revenue stream for Meta, and this new paid feature will create another source of income for the company. Currently, businesses already pay for different types of API-powered conversations, such as marketing, service, and authentication messages. Now, even smaller businesses that don’t use APIs will need to pay for broadcast messaging.
As part of these updates, WhatsApp is also refreshing the logo of its WhatsApp Business app, though details on the new design haven’t been revealed yet.
With these changes, WhatsApp is trying to strike a balance – helping businesses reach customers while preventing users from feeling overwhelmed by spammy messages.
